Geoff Thompson is a youth activist, humanitarian and a renowned expert in sports development and politics with over 25 years experience in the bidding and hosting and legacy of major games and the positive impact of sport and the arts in the social and human development of young people and communities. He is Founder and Executive Chair of the Youth Charter (www.youthcharter.co.uk), a UK registered charity and United Nations accredited Non Governmental Organisation established in 1993. Geoff is also Chair of the Board of Governors at the University of East London.
As one of the World’s leading motivational speakers, Geoff’s unique journey from social disaffection describes how sport helped him to overcome social and cultural adversity to achieving personal achievement and team success and results that have led to this unique pursuit of personal excellence. Now reflected in his Corporate Warrior programme, Geoff travels the globe engaging, motivating and inspiring leading executives, middle management and corporate work forces on how Corporate Social Responsibility polices and strategies can successfully improve behaviour and performance in the corporate workplace. Assignments have included; BP, Shell Oil Company, Marks and Spencer, Ford Motor Company, Royal Bank of Scotland, Financial Dynamics, Warbug Dillon, Manchester United FC, Muhammad Ali Institute, Her Majesty’s Treasury, Home Office, Ministry of Justice, Department of Constitutional Affairs. Geoff has also worked on assignments for United Nations agencies such as UNESCO, UNICEF, ILO, WHO and the UN Office on Sport for Development and Peace as well as the FIFA, Commonwealth Secretariat and Swiss Agency for Development.
Geoff is a former five times World Karate Champion and holder of over 50 national and international titles and has been inducted into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame. Geoff was honoured in 1995 in the Queens New Year’s Honours list with an M.B.E. for his services to sport. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and has been awarded with an Honorary Doctorate of Law by Roehampton University, an Honorary Fellowship of the University of Lancashire, an Honorary Doctorate of Education by Manchester Metropolitan University and an Honorary degree, Doctor of Letters by the University of Wolverhampton. Geoff is also a Deputy Lieutenant for Greater Manchester.
